Kayamkulam Kochunni Review (Spoiler free)

Kayamkulam Kochunni - ๐Ÿ˜œSmiley Review ๐Ÿ˜Ž

The movie finally hit the silver screen humongously, even though the release date got shifted due to floods, the expectation was intact. Why not, its an ever green genre - Kerala Robinhood, a period film and most importantly, the big budget movie of industry (๐Ÿ™ to Gokulam Movies) ๐Ÿค‘๐Ÿค‘๐Ÿค‘

Nivin Pauly in & as Kochunni๐Ÿคฉ - Really appreciate his effort taken for movie,he gave his best but the movie requires an established mass hero image and at this point of career, it is bit early for him. His stout, rom-com body language was not a proper fit in to role, it was evident on screen that he is struggling to do justice, but after that transformation, his performance was a bit satisfactory๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Mohan Lal as Ithikkara Pakki ๐Ÿ˜ - From the FL, everyone was excited to see this character on screen, with his experience, charismatic screen presence he just nailed it in his swag๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ‘Œ - but still this cameo looks like a force fit for publicity, no value is added to the story, even he is not there, nothing much will change in this movie except the initial collection๐Ÿค—๐Ÿค—๐Ÿค—

Priya Anand as Janaki☺ - A decent performance in the given space, expressions were good  but could have taken a bit more care on lip sync ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜‰

Babu Antony as Thangal๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ - A perfect fit in to the role, as strong as a horse from first frame even at this age, definitely one of his best characters in career , costumes, make up was just apt, in short the "Kattapa" of this movie✌✌✌

Sunny wayne as Kesavan๐Ÿ˜Ž - Utilised the opportunity given to him brilliantly, felt a bit comical initially with the clean shaved look, but in moustache getup he scored well in all his portions, a nice performance overall๐Ÿค˜๐Ÿค˜๐Ÿค˜

Shine Tom Chacko, Idavela Babu , MS Bhaskar & the long list of established supporting actors added grace to the frame, that periodic feel was kept alive by them ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Director Roshan Andrews๐Ÿคจ - His biggest positive is that he can bring out the movie in its realistic nature, but the only thing missed here was that, nothing is organic, everything felt artificial, a lot of hard work had been done in research, but it's not executed well, nothing is properly registered except the pathos of low caste people especially women, emotional connect is not at all established with any character, the only relief was some mass scenes & action sequences.
Felt like director was bit cautious about budget he should satisfy all class audience and don't want to take any risk, a template movie with all emotions that will entertain audience๐Ÿ˜“๐Ÿ˜“๐Ÿ˜“

Story Bobby&Sanjay๐Ÿ˜• - A huge disappointment, from a combo that gave "Mumbai police", never expected such a substandard one. It seems like they already had a commercial entertainer story in hand & glimpses of Kochunni's story was just merged to it. Story flow was not fluid, felt like bits n pieces of scenes pinned together๐Ÿ˜ž๐Ÿ˜ž๐Ÿ˜ž

Music Gopi Sundar ๐Ÿ˜˜- Songs were fine, even though it was  unnecessary to d story, but as usual the BGM was awesome eventhough heard some where else ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

Cinematography, Editing, Costumes, Art, Action Choreography (Kalari) and all other dept had put in their best effort to give a better visual experience, VFX was ok for the given budget๐Ÿ˜‡๐Ÿ˜‡๐Ÿ˜‡

The team should have taken some more time shaping the story, making screen play more gripping with soulful characters. Movie also demanded a better picturisation than this scale, an otherwise engrossing one is now turned to a pot boiler๐Ÿ˜•๐Ÿ˜•๐Ÿ˜•

Positives ๐Ÿ‘ - Mass action sequences, punch dialogues, Lalettan's cameo, Cinematography, Climax (not for all)

Negatives ๐Ÿ‘Ž - Weak characterisation, poor packaging, non-realistic treatment, not even a single mesmerising theft

Overall, movie is well qualified for a one time watch weekend entertainer for layman n family audience, but will the character KOCHUNNI stay at your heart for long ? NOT SURE ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™

General Audience : 3.5/5
Lalettan/NP fans : 4.25/5
Family Audience : 4/5
Critics : 3/5

Verdict : Commercial Hit (Mixed Response)
