Darbar Review (Spoiler free)

Darbar - 😜Smiley Review😎

It was a dream come true moment for A.R Murugadoss , when he got the opportunity to direct the one and only Super star Rajnikanth, he told in the interviews also how well he enjoyed the Rajni style and mass in his childhood, so he fixed it staright away that the movie is going to be an old school Rajni swag movie which will bring back the vintage Rajni, if seen from that perspective, yes the movie will satisfy you 💯, it's completely a Rajni show and each frame is set exclusively to hit the spot but the problem is, in the effort of bringing back vintage Rajni , he brought back a vintage story also 😝😝😝

Superstar Rajnikanth🔥 - A satisfying wholesome performance from the thalaivar, especially the emotional scenes👏🏻 and the effort he took for the dance, gym workout scene - should be appreciated bcz to pull off such scenes at this age is really hard.

Each and every frame Rajni is there and with his swag, style, charisma, humour sense and other minute reactions, he once again proves that he can fit in to the current generation commercial formula and  shoulder the entire movie🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Nayanthara😍 - A nice beautiful extended cameo, did her portions well in the limited space given, a better closure could have been given for her role

Nivetha Thomas🥰 - After Rajnikanth, one and only character that is well written in the movie, she pulled off well as a daughter did complete justice to the role, whether it's #papanasam Kamal's daughter or #Darbar Rajni's daughter she fits in well and a good chemistry is made on screen👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Yogi babu😂 - In every tamil film that gets released he is present, it's very challenging for him also to build humour on every role he does, but luckily this one is better, all his one liners worked well and especially the ones making fun of Rajni was good, without hurting the feelings of fans but still teasing him was really good😅😅😅

Sunil shetty & villian gang🤦🏻‍♂ - a very good example of how stupid a character can be🤣, when the hero is in a killing spree searching for them, villians will call him volunteerly and say "I am here, come let's fight"🤷🏻‍♂🤷🏻‍♂🤷🏻‍♂.
Template characterisation just to fill in the spaces🤐🤐🤐

Sriman, lady police officer, 1000 goons and other ensemble had done a decent job that is necessary for a commercial movie👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Director AR Muragadoss🙄 - definitely lost his touch recently, got confused whether to make a movie in his style or in Rajni style, whenever some brilliance is shown in the script suddenly a weak scene is there to follow it up, which in overall gives a null effect, an age old revenge drama shown very simply without any twists, turns🤐🤐🤐 and believed only on the hero build up shots and commercial elements

But still the first half went very good without any lag, a mixture of rom-com, mass elements, fights, songs it was a complete package, but when it comes to the second half and the plot is opened up, the movie goes flat and nothing is there to test our brain, even a layman audience can predict what will happen next

Overall he ended up making very few things for the story and a lot of things for fans to celebrate and get berserk, not saying that whistle worthy scenes were bad but it alone couldn't save the movie for all kind of audience😐😐😐

Music Anirudh❤ - If there is no bgm there would be easily 100 dull moments, music is the soul of the movie, he pushes each and every mass scene to its extreme and gives fans a bliss, every build up scene is elevated to its top notch and "Chumma kizhi" song is a celebration in the theatre, but other songs didn't created the desired impact✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻

Cinematography Santosh sivan🧐 - nothing special from him except the picturisation of the rom-com song in the first half, rest everywhere whatever needed for a commercial film is done☺☺☺

Action choreography Ram & Lakshman🤔 - The best in Telugu industry, but in Tamil the meter should be changed, the fights and build ups were good, but the believability factor is too low. Even though it's commercial, minimal logic should be kept.

Railway station fight sequence  (even though not needed), the over all way it was choreographed is spellbound and will be one of the highlights of the movie, but don't know why they forgot the fact that Rajni is an "old" cop in the fight sequences alone, rest everywhere in the story they committed that hero is aged but when it comes to a fight, he turns on his super natural mode

The climax fight was too bad, explicitly shown the dupe and vfx was also pathetic, can clearly see the head pasted over the body🤗🤗🤗

Editing, Sound mixing, Costumes, Make up and other technical dept did a decent job except the Art dept which didn't match to the budget🤝🤝🤝

Murugadoss lost track on the script and screen play ended delivering a complete commercial pot boiler, even though it's one or two, all the punch dialogues Rajni told was literally mass overload, instead of pushing him hard for unnecessary dance and fights, could have brilliantly sketched his character arc according to the age keeping the mass dialogues and slow-mo walks😌😌😌

Positives 👍🏻: Rajni & Nivetha's performance, BGM, Yogi babu's comedy

Negatives 👎🏻: Predictable story, poor screenplay, overdose action choreo, weak characterisation of villians

Overall, another commercial pot boiler from thalaivar which is strictly for fans🔥🔥🔥

General Audience : 3/5
Superstar fans : 4/5
Family Audience : 3.5/5
Critics : 2.5/5

Verdict : Average
